ANNUAL GOLF FEE INCREASE IRO 2010

The Board of directors have in principle agreed to the refurbishing the Golf facilities in 2010, the refurbishment will commence January 2010 and is anticipated to be complete by the end of May 2010.

The Golf Committee feel it fitting to show our appreciation by contributing towards this great improvement by adding on R250.00 per golfer to the annual fee.

This amount will be allocated towards the new Pro-shop, Ladies and Gents locker rooms, a Function room and TV lounge with a great new entrance to the Golf Club House.

GREETINGS TO ALL GOLFERS

We trust and believe that all has been well thus far this year. We have started the year off with a bang and have taken on a few tasks, some of which we are still busy with and proudly many are complete. Before we bore you, here are some of the interesting and exciting bits of news:

  • We have given the golf shop and Administration section a face lift. Firstly, we broke down and added on a lower and upper level to what was once a store room, creating an administration area. We then expanded the golf shop as a result of the sales in the golf shop showing a great improvement and we needed more space to exhibit our products. We have doubled the floor space creating more spacious browsing when wanting to select golf clubs and equipment.

  • We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the golfers who have contributed towards the fund raising efforts to build a better golfing experience at Magalies Park Country Club.

  • The teeing off system has been changed from two tee boxes, namely the first and tenth to only the first box which starts from 6:30 to 12:00 (winter months) and 6:00 to 12:00 (summer months) on Saturdays, Sundays as well as Public Holidays. There is a compulsory competition held on these days whereby prizes are kept for a period of two weeks whereafter they will be forfeited if not collected in this period. Members are welcome to play 9 holes in the morning from the tenth tee from 6:30 to 8:00 and then from 13:00 onwards from the first tee in the afternoon. Time from 12:00 to 13:00 for social golfers which runs off the first tee has been set aside as well.

  • A very important point needs to be made and that is that our playing time for rounds are taking longer and longer to complete and as much as the management team take responsibility for this we need you, the Golfer, to assist us in changing the trend that is creeping in to our Club. We have a suggestion in that you need not take longer than 15 minutes per hole to allow all the Golfers to play at a speed that is acceptable and enjoyable, so please work with us on this task ahead and make the Golfing experience a worthwhile one.

  • There are a few tournaments taking place at Magalies Park Country Club this year. In April we had the Easter Classic, in September we are having the Nike Betterball Challenge and in December the famous Holiday Classic.

  • The Club Championships were held in March on the 13th and 14th. Due to the rainy weather we were forced to re-arrange the tournament over one day. Thanks to a wonderful SMS system we were the only Club in Gauteng North to hold our championships on the Sunday. The A division played 36 holes and B and C division played 18 holes. Please feel free to contact the Golf Management with any suggestions for a better way into the future.

  • There has been a few changes and improvements made on the Golf Course as well. The tee boxes have been leveled, irrigation added into areas that were in desperate need of attention and Management are adding Cart pathways in an ongoing process to eventually complete a full cart pathway from the 1st tee box to the 18th Green.

Golfing Regards,

WILLIAM VAN MIERLO

Proposed rule for Magalies Park Golf Club

RECORDING OF SCORES

All Members of Magalies Park Golf Club must record scores for all rounds of golf played – home and away.

  • Scores for rounds played at Magalies Park must be entered by the member him/herself immediately after completion of the round. The national handicap system must be used for this purpose.
  • Scores for rounds played at other courses must be entered on the national handicap system at the course where the round was played. If this is not possible, the relevant score card must be supplied to Magalies Park by the 1st or 15th of the month in which play occurred, after the round has been played (which ever date is closest)

Failure to comply with the above, will result in a level par round for the relative course played, being recorded.

Failure to record scores or recording incorrect scores will also result in disciplinary action being taken.

The Following scores do not have to be recorded:

  1. Any "Scramble" format competition.
  2. Any matchplay round.

Member’s attention is drawn to the following rule of "The Rules of Golf as approved by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of ST Andrews".

Rule 3-2. FAILURE TO HOLE OUT:

If a competitor fails to hole out at any hole and does not correct his mistake before he plays a stroke from the next teeing ground, or in the case of the last hole of the round, before he leaves the putting green, he will be disqualified.

(The above rule applies to all stroke play rounds – including betterball and alliance competitions).

(No strokes may be conceded in stroke play rounds).
